About the Hotel

a building with a pool in the middle of a city at night

InterContinental Cartagena de Indias is an oceanfront luxury hotel located on the Bocagrande waterfront in Cartagena, Colombia. Operated under the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand — part of IHG Hotels & Resorts — the property houses 285 rooms and suites across 26 floors, facing directly onto the Caribbean Sea and within 8 minutes of Cartagena’s walled old town and 15 minutes from the Rafael Núñez International Airport. Since 2015, the hotel has served international leisure travelers, corporate guests, incentive groups, destination weddings and the global meetings industry that converges on Cartagena.

A SENSE OF PLACE

Cartagena de Indias is not a backdrop; it is the reason the hotel exists the way it does. The building stands where the Caribbean meets the city’s most visible coastal avenue, between the colonial walls to the north and the bay to the south. That proximity is the hotel’s operating premise: a fully equipped international property within walking distance of one of Latin America’s most consequential historic districts.

DESIGNED AROUND THE VIEW

The hotel is oriented almost entirely toward the sea. The majority of rooms and suites face the Caribbean or the Bay of Cartagena, with sound-insulated double-pane windows and private balconies on select categories. On the upper floors, the Club InterContinental Lounge and the Spa open to panoramic horizons that few properties in the city can replicate. The gym, open 24 hours, faces the ocean. Even the infinity pool — Sunset Pool Terrace — is built as a frame for the western horizon and the hour the city is named for.

CUISINE ROOTED IN THE COLOMBIAN CARIBBEAN

Gastronomy at the hotel is anchored by Kanuu, the signature restaurant, and extended through Sunset Pool Terrace, in-room dining and curated culinary events such as wine tastings and pairing dinners. The culinary direction favors regional Caribbean produce — fish from the local coast, tropical fruit from the interior, Colombian coffee from the Sierra — interpreted through international technique. Kosher catering is available through a specialized team with experience in weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs and observant corporate programs.

MEETINGS, WEDDINGS AND INCENTIVE GROUPS

The hotel operates one of Cartagena’s most complete event infrastructures, with 15 meeting rooms and flexible event spaces. Formats range from intimate boardrooms for executive committees to ballroom configurations for corporate conventions, product launches, medical congresses, and destination weddings. A dedicated planning team supports each format, and the hotel maintains a standing relationship with IHG Business Rewards for corporate clients and agencies. Meetings and corporate events are planned in detail at iccartagenameetings.com.

A PROPERTY WITH CULTURAL INTENT

The hotel’s public spaces are curated, not decorated. Landscape photography by Colombian artist Gabriel Eisenband runs through guest rooms and corridors, portraying ecosystems that most visitors to Cartagena never see — high-altitude páramos, arid deserts, and Andean rivers. Original fishing canoes from the Colombian coast sit in the lobby as both sculpture and tribute. Orchids, Colombia’s national flower, are placed throughout the property year-round by the Housekeeping team.

A HOTEL ENGAGED WITH ITS CITY

Through its Concierge Lounge, the hotel provides a commercial platform for Indhy Luna, a collective composed of survivors of Colombia’s armed conflict and forced displacement from the south of Bolívar, including artisans with hearing impairments. Their work is presented to guests as part of the hotel’s standing commitment to local economic participation. Additional sustainability initiatives, certifications, and community partnerships are documented on https://www.intercartagena.com/en/sustainability.

A Property in Continuous Evolution

InterContinental Cartagena de Indias maintains an ongoing program of spatial and technological upgrades aligned with the global standards of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. In 2024, we completed the full renovation of the Sunset Pool Terrace, our panoramic terrace facing the Caribbean sunset, redefined around contemporary comfort and an unobstructed reading of the horizon. Throughout 2025, the program continued with the renovation of flooring and textile wall coverings in the level 6 event venues, including the Gran Salón Aguamarina and mezzanine spaces, using materials selected for their acoustic performance, durability, and contemporary aesthetic character.

The hotel’s audiovisual infrastructure, operated in partnership with MAGIX Event Design, includes indoor and outdoor LED screens, interior and exterior mapping, collaborative monitors, amplification and line-array sound systems, Bosch parliamentary microphones, programmable scenic and architectural lighting, Bosch infrared simultaneous interpretation systems in ISO 4043-certified booths, videoconferencing, streaming capabilities, a TV studio, and dedicated network connectivity for high-demand events.

The hotel operates under a philosophy of continuous improvement rather than episodic renovations, ensuring that every space responds to the expectations of luxury travelers, corporate congress planners, and international delegations returning to Cartagena year after year.
